These scrimshaw racks are inspired by sailor-made coat racks of the mid-nineteenth century. They are made with four sperm whale teeth which are mounted of a long piece of molded hardwood. This very useful introductory project can be used to hang coats and hats. In these classes, you will shape the profile on the edge of the board and drill holes to attach the whale teeth. On the butternut and cherry racks, you will also make and install the ivory heart or star inlay. After drilling holes in the back of each whale tooth, they will be fastened to the board and hangers will be installed.
